First foreign alumni chapter launched in Chile
In August 2014 the first foreign chapter of Leiden alumni was founded in Santiago the Chile. The chapter was officially launched during an alumni meeting organized on the occasion of the visit of Rector Carel Stolker. Alumnus Marco Antonio Moreno Perez initiated the Chilean alumni chapter, which will form a network for Leiden alumni living in Chile.
It is not just the university wanting to keep in touch with its alumni; often alumni abroad themselves seek to maintain contact with each other.
Alumni chapters in a foreign region or country organize a number of meetings during the year. A chapter provides a visible network where alumni share experiences, maintain contact and commit to their alma mater.
As rector Carel Stolker puts it: "This circle in Chile is a valuable extension of Leiden University’s network. Hopefully Chile has fired the starting signal for other global initiatives.”
Leiden University delegations regularly travel abroad on working visits. If the programme allows, gatherings will be organized to meet alumni in the region.
Such visits are great opportunities for strengthening ties, sharing knowledge and exchanging experiences.
Last August, during the alumni meeting in Chile, Carel Stolker talked to several Chilean alumni about their time in Leiden.
The Alumni Relations department of the university maintains contacts with the chapters and helps them to organize events.
If you are living abroad and wish to strengthen your bond with fellow alumni and with Leiden University by creating a chapter: Leiden university and its Alumni Relations department will be happy to support you.
