Leiden Alumni Meetings in Brazil

A delegation from Leiden University visited Brazil from 14 to 18 March 2016. Together with representatives of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Brazil Leiden University organized 2 alumni meetings at the residencies of the Dutch Consuls General in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, and a lunch in Brasilia.

Rector Magnificus Carel Stolker headed the delegation, which included representatives from the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Law, the Leiden University Medical Center, the Centre for Science and Technology Studies, Anthropology and the Faculty of Archaeology.
Besides discussing science funding and presenting research, a new chair in Brazilian Studies was announced and Rectors' meetings and three Leiden alumni meetings were organized: in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia.  

On Monday evening the delegation visited the residence of the Consul-General Mr Cor van Honk in São Paulo, the first in a series of meetings with Brazilian alumni.
On Wednesday, the Leiden University group met with Leiden alumni for lunch in Brasilia, and the last alumni meeting took place at the Residence of the Consul General of Rio de Janeiro Mr Arjen Uijterlinde.
Rector Carel Stolker and the delegation were very pleased to meet and talk to the former students about their time in Leiden, as well as their current jobs and life in Brazil.
