First Netherlands-Indonesian Alumni Evening 21 March 2015 in Bandung, Indonesia.
The Leiden University-LEAD Alumni Group from Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) in Bandung organized its FirstNetherlands-IndonesianAlumni Evening of the LEAD Programme on 21 March 2015 in Bandung, Indonesia, which was attended by a large number of alumni (more than 90 guests).
The meeting, which was opened by Prof.Dr.L. Jan Slikkerveer and Prof.Dr. A. Himendra Wargahadibrata, was highlighted by traditional Sundanese music (kecapi suling) and dance by a member of the LISES Traditional Dance Group from UNPAD.
The lively discussions and conversations have also encouraged former Indonesian MA and MSc students to consider continuing their studies at PhD level in Leiden.
The Leiden Ethnosystems and Development Programme (LEAD) of the Faculty of Science of Leiden University is lately enjoying a growing interest from students and staff from Indonesia, in particular from Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) in Bandung in the multidisciplinary field of ethnoscience - as the pendant of science – in particular in ethno-economics, ethno-medicine and ethno-history.
The recent increase in the number of PhD Fellows, of whom another seven just received a scholarship from the Ministry of Education (Dikti) and the Ministry of Finance (LPDP) in Jakarta - to study at the LEAD Programme in Leiden, is the result of a timely reorientation toward the Indonesian indigenous knowledge systems as part of the cultural heritage within the context of the country’s current development process.
It was very rewarding to observe that many alumni are encouraging other Indonesia students to come to Leiden to study, especially in the newly-developing field of ethnoscience at the LEAD Programme of the Faculty of Science.
